On March 12, U.S. Border Patrol agents in Buffalo encountered a group of individuals attempting to enter the United States by jumping off a freight train on the International Railroad Bridge. Among them were three men and one woman. The men fled after leaving the injured woman behind, but were swiftly apprehended by agents following a brief pursuit. The woman, immobilized due to her injuries, received immediate medical attention from Erie County Sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers before being transported to a local medical center for further treatment.

Chief Patrol Agent Thomas G. Martin of the U.S. Border Patrol Buffalo Sector commended the coordinated efforts of law enforcement in safeguarding the Western New York area. At the Buffalo Station, the three men were processed, revealing that the woman and two of the men hailed from India, while the third man was from the Dominican Republic. Subsequent investigation confirmed that all four individuals were undocumented non-citizens.

As a result, the three men are undergoing removal proceedings and are currently detained at the Batavia Federal Detention Facility, awaiting deportation hearings under charges specified in Sections 212 and 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Meanwhile, the injured woman continues to receive medical care at a local facility. The Buffalo Sector, responsible for securing the border between New York and Pennsylvania, spanning 341 linear maritime border miles, emphasizes the importance of community collaboration in maintaining border security. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to assist in these efforts.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in ensuring border integrity and enforcing immigration laws. U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security, remains dedicated to managing, controlling, and protecting the nation’s borders, integrating customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection at official ports of entry and points between them.
